# Complete setup

> What the Setup page asks of you, which steps hold up new work, and what acknowledging, connecting and requesting a license record.

**Complete setup** lists everything June or your workspaces need from you before
you start new work: privacy notices that apply to you, connections a workspace
requires, a license request, and a few suggestions. It lives at
[/dashboard/onboarding](/dashboard/onboarding) on the web. The page is called
**Setup** in the app. In the iPhone app it opens as its own screen.

## Reading the page

The large card at the top is the one thing to do now. It names the step, says
in a sentence why it matters, and has one button that does it, such as
**Read and confirm** or **Reconnect Microsoft 365**. When that step is done,
the card moves on to the next one.

The line under the title, for example "2 of 5 done", counts the required steps
that are due now. Suggested steps, the license and documents that take effect
later do not count.

**Your steps** below the card lists every required step on one line, grouped by
where it applies: **For you**, then each workspace by name. Choose a line to
bring that step into the card, for example to fix a connection before reading a
notice. **Back** returns the card to the next step. Finished steps are folded
away; **Show completed** brings them back, and a finished document can still
be read from the card.

If the remaining steps wait for an administrator to choose a connector, the
card says so instead of offering a button. The iPhone app cannot choose
connectors: an administrator there is asked to choose them in June on the web.

Everything optional sits under **Optional**, after your steps: suggested
connections, the license request and suggestions such as June for iPhone.

## When setup opens

June opens setup by itself when you sign in, or when a new required step
appears while you work: a changed requirement, a new notice version, or a
connection that stopped working. It opens once for each new required step in a
sign-in. Choose **Not now** to go back to where you were; you can keep reading
your chats.

While a required step is open, the sidebar shows a **Complete setup** entry
(Home in the iPhone app). Pages that help you finish setup open without
interruption, among them documents, integrations, support and settings.

## Required and suggested steps

Each step says whether anything waits on it.

| Step | Where it appears | What waits on it |
| ---------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------ | --------------------------------------------------------- |
| A privacy notice or other document for you | **Your steps**, under **For you** | New work everywhere, once the acknowledgment is overdue |
| A connection the workspace marks **Mandatory** | **Your steps**, under the workspace's name | New work in that workspace only |
| A connection the workspace marks **Suggested** | **Optional** | Nothing |
| **License request** | **Optional**, with the workspace's name | Nothing; it waits for that workspace's required steps |
| **Suggestions**, such as June for iPhone | **Optional** | Nothing; choose **Dismiss** to hide one |
| **Company agreements** | One line under the workspace's name | Nothing you do; your company's administrators handle them |

A paused workspace still lets you read existing chats and reach setup,
integrations and support. Other workspaces with nothing open keep working.

In Slack, a message that would start new work in a paused place gets a private
reply with a link to setup instead of an answer. June does not post about your
setup in a channel.

## Documents for you

Choose **Read and confirm**, read the document, then choose **I acknowledge receipt**. June
records that you received exactly the version you read. Acknowledging receipt is
not consent to a particular use of your data; see
[Security and privacy](/docs/security-and-privacy#legal-setup-and-updated-documents)
for how notices and versions work.

A notice marked as taking effect later can be read now; nothing waits on it
until it is due.

## Connections a workspace requires

An organization can require specific connectors, for example Microsoft 365 or
one of the MCP servers it offers. Another organization can require something
else. A requirement never limits which other connectors you add; the usual
[connection rules](/docs/integrations#personal-or-organization) still apply.

Choose **Connect** to authorize your own account. In the iPhone app, sign-in opens
in the browser and setup picks up the result when you return. June then checks the
connection itself; a connection only counts once June has verified that it
works and includes the access the workspace asks for. June checks again when
you return to the app and from time to time while you use it.

| What the step says | What to do |
| -------------------------------------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Not connected | Choose **Connect** |
| Missing access | Choose **Reconnect** and allow the access the provider asks for |
| Needs reconnecting: the connection stopped working | Choose **Reconnect** |
| Couldn't verify: June can't verify the connection right now | Choose **Check again** in a few minutes |
| Not configured: an administrator still needs to choose the connector | Ask your organization's administrator |

**Couldn't verify** is not the same as **Needs reconnecting**, so the step
offers **Check again** instead of **Reconnect**. After **Check again** the step
says June is checking, and it updates by itself once June verifies the
connection. If June still can't verify it after a short while, the step says
so and stays open; it never counts as done until June has verified the
connection. Contact support if it keeps happening.

Removing a connection, or losing access to it, reopens the step.

## Getting help while setup is open

The bottom of the setup page links to **Contact support** and, on the web,
**Your connections**, whatever setup still asks for. Settings, sign-out, your
chats and your documents stay open too. In the iPhone app, **Contact support**
opens support over the setup screen.

## Requesting a license

When a workspace's required steps are done, choose **Request license** or
**Record request**. This tells your company you would like a license. It does
not charge you, start a paid license or change what you can do in June. A request
that needs approval goes to whoever can fund the workspace, and approval changes
none of this either: the row then shows **Recorded**, not an active license.

## When steps reopen

Completed steps keep a green check under **Show completed**. A step opens
again when something it depends on changes: a new required version of a notice,
an edited workspace requirement, or a connection that needs repair. When nothing
is open, the card says **You're all set** and **Continue** takes you back.

## For administrators

People allowed to configure an organization's setup edit it from the
**Requirements** link on the organization's page. See
[Organizations](/docs/organizations#complete-workspace-setup) for adding,
editing and disabling requirements.
