Google Drive
June finds and reads your Docs, Sheets, Slides, PDFs and their comments, saves what it writes to your Drive, edits your Docs, Sheets and Slides, and changes or shares your files when you approve.
Connect Google Drive and June can find and read your Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, PDFs and text files, read the comments people left on them, put the documents it writes for you into your Drive, with a link in the chat, and edit your Sheets, Docs and Slides, following your approval settings.
Read the Q3 plan doc I just linked and list the open decisions.
Write a one-page brief from the client requirements above and save it to my Drive.
Share the Q3 plan with anna@example.com as an editor and ben@example.com as a viewer.
What June can do
-
Search your Drive by name or by what a file says, and narrow the search to a type (Docs, Sheets, Slides, PDFs, folders), an owner, files shared with you, or a date range.
-
Read the files it finds or that you link: Google Docs, Google Slides, PDFs, Word, Excel and PowerPoint files (docx, xlsx, xls, pptx) and plain-text files. It can also look at images.
-
Read a PDF or an Office file page by page, up to ten pages at a time, and go on from where it stopped. A PDF's text keeps its layout, so the questions and answers of a filled-in form stay side by side. A scanned PDF has no text to read; in a chat June can still look at it, and through other apps it says the file is a scan. Files over 20 MB are too large to read.
-
Read a Google Sheet one tab at a time, as the values show in the sheet: it sees every tab's name and size, reads up to 1,000 rows and 52 columns of one range per step (200 rows unless it asks for more) and goes on from where it stopped, further columns included. Formulas come back as their results.
-
Read the comments on a file with their replies, who wrote them, the passage they point at, and whether they are resolved.
-
Save the documents it wrote into your Drive, up to ten files at a time and 20 MB each, in a folder named June unless you name another. The files are yours like any other.
-
Upload a file already attached in June to a Drive folder you name, up to 20 MiB per file. The approval card shows the file name, type, size and destination folder. If the file changes before upload, June asks again.
-
Copy a Drive file into a folder you name, including a shared file when Google permits copying it. The approval card names the source, the new file and the destination folder. Folders and shortcuts cannot be copied. Google still controls whether the account may copy the source or add files to the destination. If Google does not confirm whether a file was created, June asks you to check the destination before trying again.
-
Update a file it created earlier, when you ask for a new version.
-
Read shared drives, a file's revisions, who a file is shared with, replies to comments, what changed lately, and how a Doc, Sheet or Slides deck is laid out (headings, tabs, slides) straight from Google, read-only.
-
Change any file of yours, straight in Google: rename, move, star, trash or restore it, comment on it or reply to a comment, clear part of a sheet, or take away someone's access. It can also create a folder, a shared drive or an empty Doc, Sheet or Slides deck.
-
Share a file or a folder with people you name, each as a viewer, commenter or editor. Google emails each of them a link unless you ask June not to. Sharing a folder shares everything in it. If you name someone who already has access, June shares nothing and tells you, so nobody's access changes.
-
For every change and every share, in a chat on the web or in the app, June shows you a card when your approval settings require it, with what the change does, the exact request and everything it sends. While the card is waiting, nothing changes until you approve. The card also names the folder a file moves into, whose access a removal takes away, and anyone a comment emails because it mentions them (
+name@example.com). A share's card names the file and lists every person with the access they get, and whether Google emails them; Always allow is not offered for sharing. In Slack June posts the same card in the thread. In a schedule June says what it would change instead (how approval works). -
Edit the Google Sheets and Docs your account can edit, following your approval settings. When June asks, the card appears on the web, in the app or in Slack:
- add rows below the last row of a table on a tab, up to 200 rows of 26 cells at a time, no wider than the columns you name; the card shows the spreadsheet, the tab and the rows, one line each (past 20 rows it says how many more; Raw input has them all). Google starts the rows in the table's first column; if that is not the column you named (column A when you name only the tab), June tells you where they went. If the tab is renamed, or another tab takes its place, before the rows are added, June adds nothing and asks again;
- change a range of cells; the card shows each cell it writes, as it is now and as it will be, even a cell that already reads the same (a cell that holds a formula shows the formula too; past 20 cells it says how many more), and if anyone changes those cells before the change is made, June changes nothing and asks again;
- create or rename a tab, or permanently delete an entire tab. The card names the spreadsheet and tab and warns that deleting it removes all its contents, including formulas, charts and notes; a deleted tab does not go to the trash. June cannot delete a spreadsheet's last tab;
- sort a range by one or more columns, or change its text style, font, colours, alignment, wrapping or number format. The card names the range and each change. Sorting includes the first row of the range, so tell June to leave headers out. Each range holds up to 10,000 cells. Tab changes, sorting and formatting ask for approval each time, with no Always allow. If the spreadsheet changes after review, June asks again. Someone editing at the same moment June makes the change can still overlap it;
- add text at the end of a Doc or at the end of a heading's section, as plain paragraphs (never part of a list or a heading, and without the link or bold of the text before them), or replace every exact occurrence of a word or phrase; the card shows the document and every change with its exact text, and if anyone edits the Doc before the change is made, June changes nothing and asks again. Replacements that would change each other's text, such as one word to another and that word to a third, are made one change at a time instead.
Every value goes into the sheet exactly as written: a value that starts with
=,+,-or@stays text and never becomes a formula. In a Doc with several tabs, June edits the first. One change holds up to 64 KB of text, fewer characters in scripts such as Chinese or Japanese; June splits a larger one into several changes.
Edit a presentation
June can add a text box, replace the text in a slide’s text box, replace matching text on a slide, add a blank slide, duplicate, move or delete a slide, and add or replace an image from your June files. Attach the image in chat first; a file June made in its workspace can also be attached for use in a slide. Images must be PNG, JPEG or GIF files of at most 10 MiB.
The approval card names the presentation and shows every change, including the slide, the exact text, or the image file and its position and size. Google receives a temporary copy of an approved image. If the presentation or image changes after the card, June asks you to review it again.
June makes one slide structure change at a time, and one operation per existing slide in each approval. Text and image changes target text boxes and images directly on a slide; grouped objects are not supported.
In the board deck, replace the title on slide 2 with “November results” and use the chart I attached on slide 3.
More than one Google account
One connection is one Google account. To add a second, open Google Drive
from the Integrations page and connect again under a short name of your
own, such as work. Tell June which one to use when it matters, by that
name or by the account's email address.
If you did not allow everything when you connected, or you connected before June could edit Docs and Sheets or change and share your own files, the Google Drive page asks you to re-authorize that connection; do so and allow everything Google lists. Until then June still reads your files and changes the ones it created, and tells you to reconnect when you ask it to change or share another file.
What June does not do
- It never puts a formula into a Sheet, or an image, a link, a table or formatting into a Doc, or links, animations or formatting into Slides.
- Changes follow your approval settings. Sharing cannot be always allowed; check the recipients and access on the card before approving.
- It never makes a link anyone can open, never shares with a whole domain, never changes someone's existing access (it can only add people or take access away) and never hands over ownership of a file.
- It never moves or creates a file in a folder other people can open or in a shared drive, never changes whether people can copy or download a file, never copies a file, and never permanently deletes a Drive file: a file it trashes stays in your Drive's trash.
- It cannot open other file types, such as videos or archives, and says so instead of guessing at what is inside.
- A sheet's charts, formatting and cell notes stay out of what it reads; a chart sheet is listed among the tabs but has no cells to read.
- It does not read handwriting, stamps or form fields in a PDF as text, and
it does not read older Word files (
.doc), files protected with a password, or files whose owner turned off downloading for you.
Where a read file's text goes
June reads a PDF or an Office file inside June itself; no other service sees it. To read the next pages quickly, it keeps the file's text, not the file, for 7 days after the last read, then deletes it. It deletes it sooner when the file changes or when you disconnect Google Drive. The file itself stays only in your Drive.
Removing June from your Google account's third-party access also ends Gmail and Search Console; to stop only Drive, disconnect it on the Integrations page.

Google Calendar
June reads your Google Calendar in your own time zone and finds when the people you name are free. It adds, moves or cancels an event, or answers an invitation, when you approve it.
